This book is one of the best books i've ever read in basic histology. it's really good for medical students, Simple and straight to the point.
Every histologic feature had it's clinical correlation which is so helpful for students throughout their Predoc studies.

Great basic text with lots of good images

I purchased this text for a course in histology that had no assigned text, and have been very pleased with the book. There is also a DVD of images which is a little hard to work with, but helpful once you get the hang of it. there are a number of different texts in the class, and this is the one we all rely on for identifying images in our lab sessions.

Deliciously sexy shorter read!

Second book in this wonderful 'Plus Size Romance' series of individual stories.

I love the characters in this series. Cherry is a deliciously curvy interlude to police veteran Zane's day. Rear ending his car was just about the best thing Cherry could have done for him and for her. Thinking her curves are unattractive to most men, and that her virginity is a burden, she's about to settle for her creepy and violent ice cream parlour boss as her lover of choice, until the sexy Zane makes his move and drags her off to the police station. Phwarrr! A wonderful love story about a real man (a man who likes his lady just the way she is) and a beautiful woman (curves and all) ensues. I loved the way Zane stormed into the icecream parlour to claim his woman...so romantic!

These shorter stories are not slim on character developement or on scene setting. They wind a fabulously intricate tale into a small package that leaves you desperate for more. Highly recommend for an hour's brilliant entertainment.

Fun, fun, fun!

This is the second big girl book I've read from this author and I loved it. My only complaint is that it was to short. Must read! Cherry is so fun and spacey. Love the clairvoyant friend.

How disappointing!

Oy. I liked the first book but not this one. Way too rushed and Cherry's thinking was just crazy! What the hell! Then Zane...he's 40 years old and instantly falls in love with her? I dont buy it. Then when he tries to be all noble about taking her virginity he ends up taking it in a storage room where she used to work/live at the ice cream parlor on a crappy mattress because she was freaking impatient and immature and has a cockeyed way of thinking about things. Then of COURSE she gets pregnant because they are too stupid to use protection. LOL. I think the most entertaining part was her little Mexican friend with the dream premonitions. She cracked me up. Gabriella I think was her name. This was way far fetched and didnt come together well at all. I really disliked Cherry. These 2 people have no business being together at all. They have nothing in common and there is NO emotional connection. I sure as heck didnt feel it. Sexual chemistry a little yes but thats about it.

Good for beginners, good for advanced users

The book begins very simple so beginners can use it. It is not a book a non-techical can easily read. I was looking for some theory about manifold design and the book gave me a good impression of the available methods. A disadvantage of the book is that it refers to ESP software developed at Stanford university. It is meant for instructural purposes but it is not downloadable from the Stanford university site. Overall I think the book is good due to the up-todate examples.

Best as a textbook, but still interesting otherwise

This slim volume is for engineering students, complete with end-of-chapter problems, but is nonetheless readable, or at least skimmable, from cover to cover for those with an interest in engines. The writing is concise but not dry, with the author recounting his personal experiences with ruined VW engines. It has a sense of history, considering the 3.4L Jaguar engine first used in 1948 sufficiently modern to use as a benchmark to measure the late-Nineties Daihatsu against.
Some later sections run to several pages of calculations, so you won't read everything, but you'll still get a good qualitative understanding due to the author's own command of the subject.

This book makes me wish there were a six star or that I'd never given a 5 star to any other product. Lumley goes into very good detail about how to calculate various aspects of engine performance. Then he gives simpler rules of thumb one can use instead. He'll commonly show how those rules of thumb compare to that empirical data both noting how well they compare but then show where they fall short.

This book seems as if it might belong in a sophmore class for engineers pursuing a degree related to automobile engine design or in an upper division class for engineers pursuing other lines of work. Just a superb book. I've flags marking equations on about every other page. His writing is clear, concise and simple. An example of the simple language which does not become simplistic is:

"When the flow velocity through an orifice reaches the local speed of sound, a change in the pressure downstream of the orifice can no longer be communicated to the flow upstream of the orifice."

I suspect that even graduate engine designers could use the equations in Lumley's book for estimation of performance. A designer of intake ports, for example, might use such empirical rules of an engine's "breathing" in order to sketch characteristics only turning to more detailed calculations and simulations when certain that a design fell within realistic bounds.

As a software engineer I find this book invaluable in creating the sort of basic simulation which is close enough without cutting corners too much. A simple example is the fact that the speed of sound only rises 1 meter/second from 0% to 100% humidity while a change in temperature has a broader range of change. To reduce the complexity of the calculations, he removes the consideration of of humidity. Even if travelling from a rain forest to a desert salt flat, the difference isn't worth considering except in the most rigorous calculations. The number and kine of examples like this are to numerous to consider in this short review.

About the Author
Skip Downing is an international consultant in the field of faculty development and student success strategies. Dr. Downing has earned degrees from Princeton University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Santa Monica, and Carnegie Mellon University. He holds advanced degrees in both English and counseling psychology. He was professor of English at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) for 32 years. In addition to his role as an academic instructor, Dr. Downing created and coordinated BCCC's Student Success and Learning Community Programs. These programs teach students how to apply proven success strategies to achieve their full potential in college and in life. The College Success Program resulted in a significant increase in both student academic success and retention. Dr. Downing has made numerous presentations at national conferences and conducted faculty development workshops at many two- and four-year colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Bermuda, and the Virgin Islands. Dr. Downing's teaching, writing, and consulting are all guided by his belief that the greatest mission of any educational institution is to empower its students to live rich, fulfilling lives. Since 1996, he has facilitated the On Course Workshops, intensive four-day retreats for college educators focusing on proven strategies for helping students become active, responsible partners in their education and achieve greater success in college and in life.

This should be the first text a college student is required to read

Beginning with the inside of the front cover which lists differences between "successful student" and "struggling student", this book is filled with information which will improve the performance of any student in college. While this should be on the "must read" for summer reading of new college students, it would be useful as a review and ways to improve for any student. There is a self-assessment tool which would point the student to areas of strengths and weaknesses found in the back of Chapter 1. By addressing areas of weaknesses first, this 300+ page book can be broken down to specific chapters. Once the student realizes the results of implementing the suggestions, it will be easy to incorporate the rest of the chapters into the reading schedule. Selected chapters address accepting personal responsibility (chapter 2), discovering self-motivation (chapter 3), and self-awareness (chapter 6).

This volume could be used in the freshman curriculum or bits incorporated into introductory courses already in place. I can see this being included as part of an introduction to psychology class. While the title addresses college, the lessons include topics which are relevant to success in life both during and after one's formal education.

Parts of this could, and should, be used in high school classes for those students who are motivated and wanting to further develop their academic and leadership skills.

I recommend placing a copy of this in every new student's trunk which is being packed for that adventure called "college".

Best book I've read on how to succeed in college and life!

As an educator, this is the book I wish I had written. The author is a great coach, persuasively urging readers to make wise choices that will change the outcome of their lives both in college and in life. I highly recommend this book to teachers and students alike.

You have got to be kidding me!

Maybe it was because the book was a required text for an English class, and I thought that inappropriate, but I really did not like this book. Maybe it is because I am not a person who is able to have a serious conversation with my inner critic and then analyze the listening style of that that imaginary voice. I went into the course with an open mind, but after so many patronizing Dr.Phil-after-a-ripping-bong-hit style Journey Entry assignments, I was tired of having my time wasted. (The margins contain many Oprah quotes, so if you are a fan, dig in.) If you need a therapist, get a therapist. If you must have a book to help you succeed in life, try Seven Habits by Covey.

Not just a cookbook, this is also a brief history of the partnership and restaurants. The book itself is quite visually appealing, with a clean modern layout and lovely appetizing photos. Packed full of yummy recipes, there are also helpful tips on things such as how to best cook the chickpeas and which tahini is most flavorful.

Featuring a well balanced assortment of recipes—from drinks and sides to main dishes—and many options to create a fantastic meal for yourself or a crowd. There is truly something for everyone here, regardless if you are vegan, vegetarian, or meat lover. Even those with allergies or dietary restrictions are taken into consideration, as there is a checklist in the back of the book denoting which recipes are gluten, lactose, and/or nut-free.

This is no doubt, a book for chickpea/hummus lovers! Such a wonderfully illustrated and simple cookbook with a complete focus on the chickpea.

I hadn't heard of the Hummus Bros. until I received this book and I wish I could eat at their restaurant! They truly love hummus and it's completely evident throughout this cookbook, down to the photo instruction of "How to achieve the perfect hummus bros. swirl". The recipes are delicious and combine dishes with hummus that I'd never thought of (hummus + chicken tikka) but also non-hummus dishes (guacamole, gluten-free chocolate brownies), drinks and salads. A complete meal can be made from recipes in this very user-friendly cookbook.

This book also makes a great gift for chickpea lovers/hummus lovers/food lovers in general!

Who loves hummus ? My family does, my neighbors now do and even my anti anything but meat and potatoes friend likes it. I made a few recipes out of this to extend my flavor reach and wowed taste buds. Where has this book been all my life ? I have been making hummus for years, the same three varieties were getting stale. Yes, I tried some recipes off the internet with very meh results. Not a meh recipe so far out of this baby !
The authors share their winning recipes and even add details on the benefits of eating these misunderstood heath bombs.There is of course hummus, but there are so many more Lebanese recipes to try. It's not all about the dip. A very healthy, tasty and unique addition to my cookbook shelf.

You will get three other offenses designed to get the ball inside to your post, one offense designed for a slashing wing, and another offense that uses the "elevator screen to free up a three point shooter. In addition, this book details one of the best delay games I have ever seen that not only can run the clock, but score in a variety of means when the defense starts to cheat on the offense. Finally, I know most coaches have a variety of baseline out of bounds plays to run. Most coaches seem to play zone against the baseline out of bounds. But when they choose to go man-to-man in this situation, I teach my team only one play. It is by far the most effective man-to-man baseline out of bounds play I have ever seen. This play is included in this book.

Great book for any coach

I bought this book in order to gain a few new concepts. It was that and a lot more. The breakdown of each offense is terrific and all the concepts are ways that truly do work. I would recommend this to any coach, or player who wants to have a better understanding of basketball and increase that IQ

Excellent book for high school coaches. Picked this up to try to find a few new things. It's short, but there are some really nice offenses in this book. It's well worth the money and something I will reference continually.
