Review of Bukeley's 'Wondering Brain'

This work serves effectively as an introduction to neuroscience of atypical activities like dreaming, sexuality, creativity and meditation. These experiences are all link by a religious studies perspective. The book contains an introduction to both computational neuroscience and religious studies, making it incredibly accessible. The author also introduces many of the key modern thinkers in both fields; both Damasio the neuroscientist and Doniger the religious scholar receive several long passages of admirable quotation. Steven Pinker, Freud, and others are also introduced.

This work is not highly organized or easy to use for research purposes. It is a series of essays best suited to leisurely reading. This is a layman's introduction.

Victor is home from college for fall break. Nick is a young man that Victor went to school with. Nick now does repairs and handyman type things for the neighbors. Nick sees Victor "relaxing" through his bedroom window. They are both shocked to see each other. It is the start to a steamy read with new discoveries for both characters.

i have read all van barrett books ive enjoyed all but i do have to say a couple end with a feeling of unfinished which is sad also the bad room mate series you get a bit fed up with lead character van is a good writer just alot feel like something is missing

One of the best authors of the last 100 years

Piper does an excellent job of keeping your attention while at the same time describing situations that we can see now in real life. He makes the science part of science fiction real without giving classes on it. Unlike many authors, he doesn't depend upon sex to sell his stories ... some stories don't even have members of the opposite sex involved - and you don't miss them. I would recommend any books by him for anyone aged ten to a hundred and expect you to enjoy them.

Much better than the Paratime stories.

This is a better thought out series of stories than the Paratime stories. Why? This is one timeline, so it can be better thought out. I also like the lessons he teaches that we always forget, history always repeats itself. The story 'Space Viking' is my favorite. Here we see Piper's views on civilization, democracy, barbarians, and Hitler. Democracy must be on the lookout for all of the Hitler's out there waiting to destroy our civilization. They are always out there! Also look closer at those you call barbarians they maybe more civilized than you are.

Best book on research design and intro stats

This is hands down the best research book/intro stats book on the market. Finally a teacher who knows how to teach. A bonus is the fact that the text is funny...yes a research text with humor. And it works. Excellent choice. I am a PhD who is reading the book for brush up on my research skills. I read it cover to cover and it is good.

Excellent tool

This book is an excellent tool for researchers and anyone wishing to conduct statistically sound experiments. The authors present clear (and humorous) explanations for various scenarios and appropriate tests. If you ever wondered how in the world you could properly test your Likert-based responses (they are usually non-parametric, so no sum of chi-squares for you), the right tests are in this book. There are also references to SPSS if you use that software.

I couldn't even read it at night, because it freaked me out so much.
This was definitely in the vein of Stephen King.

Creepy and Captivating

I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of anything horror. I have too good of an imagination and often can't make it past the first few chapters. I often find myself scared out of my mind and not interested enough in the story to push through.

Dolls freaked me out! I had to read it during the day and even then I would be up at night still spooked. However, even with how freaked out I was I had to keep reading because I needed to see the next twist. This is one of those books that sucks you in and holds on to you from beginning to end-running through my mind even when I had to take a reluctant break from reading. From the very beginning to the last word, I sat in rigid horror waiting to see what would happen next. Harrow did an excellent job building the suspense and creating a terror that was fantastic and vivid.

I highly recommend this story to anyone looking for a good scare or if you just like to read horror. It's very excellently done.

Scary fun

This is a great thriller. It is a book that you won't want to put down. Pure escapism fun. The author is able to make the evil in the book explode off the pages with the intensity of a mac truck smashing through a wall yet have the characteristics of tar,sticky and impossible to remove. This book will show you the dangers of treading in the forbidden realms. So make sure you have night light ready. Must read. Have fun.
