About the Author

ANDREW T. HECHT spent nearly 35 years on Wall Street, including two decades at the trading desk of Phillipp Brothers, which became Salomon Brothers and ultimately part of Citigroup. Over the past three decades, he has researched, structured, and executed some of the largest trades ever made, involving huge quantities of precious metals and bulk commodities. Hecht contributes to Traders Magazine and consults for CQG and other companies involved in trading, producing, and consuming commodities. He is a member of the Mercy College MBA program executive network.

Good beginner book

You could do worse than to pick up Andrew Hecht's "How to make money with commodities" as your introduction to the world of trading commodities. He lays out all the major commodities, the factors that affect the price and tradability, and how commodities impact stocks and other investments. Backwardation and contango are also explained, and for the first time I understand what each means. Also of interest: oil is usually in backwardation, and nat gas is usually in contango. I'm not sure why that is (is it more expensive to store oil?), but maybe that will be in the sequel, "How to really make money with commodities." And that brings me to my main criticism, that the book is so elementary and pitched at such a beginner level that the reader doesn't feel he's getting the "inside scoop" or any good ideas for trading commodities.

To be sure, there are some great stories from his days trading commodities. The story of Andy Hall and the first Iraq war, or the world's largest sugar cube, or about the man whose word moves the cacao markets were all worth the price of admission. But in general the impression was that the book could have been pitched at a slightly higher level without the loss of much comprehension or interest. But in that vein, he does suggest that nat gas and silver are two markets to watch, and he makes some interesting comments about the lack of physical silver backing up futures trades in the yellow metal. Interesting. In addition, Mr. Hecht projects complete competence and knowledge, and the reader gets the impression there are few people who know more about the commodity markets. Altogether, an excellent introduction to the commodity markets, with an emphasis on intro.

This book is a fantastic read and provides a great guide to the commodity markets for investors at all levels. The author provides individuals with a method to research commodities and then invest in commodity based equities. This book can really help an investor make sense out of commodities in relation to other assets. The methods in this book are tied together with invaluable stories from decades of real life experiences. I highly recommend "How to Make Money with Commodities" for all investors. Whether you invest in commodities or equities, there is something for everyone in this book.

I found this book to be highly informative, topical and also at times entertaining. Andrew's insights and vast experience, having himself traded a significant number of commodity underlyings, sheds light on the intricacies and fundamentals of these markets. Equally fascinating are his remembrances of some of the more influential and colorful personalities who were key market-makers for these markets, which lends a human perspective to the exciting world of natural resource trading and investment. A must read for anyone who is starting to look at diversifying their portfolio into these markets.

Simply put....Pray For One can be a game changer.

With Pray For One Bo Chancey has taken what has become, for many, a complex, dogmatic, and often judgement based view of Christianity and stripped it down to one basic idea. To simply pray for one. This most basic idea bridges the denominational gap that so often exists between Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals, and Christians of so many varied denominations and puts the differences aside to work for a common goal. To bring people to a relationship with God through Jesus. You don't need to be a religious scholar, you don't need to be a priest or pastor, you don't have to memorize scripture or be all things to all people. You just need to pray for one.

This is a great read for anyone attempting to understand what the church and this Jesus thing is really about. A simple yet provocative read, Bo Chancey clearly and concisely articulates what it means to love Jesus and be His church. He strips away the gross bindings that have enslaved Christian teaching and gets to the pure essence of living out the Gospel message as an individual and a church. He challenges today's conventional thinking about discipleship and living for Jesus. Anyone who reads, Christian or not, will be transformed. Your prayer life and walk with Jesus will be transformed through this simple but profound prayer.

Outstanding Book, Important Message

This book was a breath of fresh air in its message that it's time to get the Church back to the heart of Jesus' mission as He stated Himself: to seek and save the lost. Jesus does this over and over in the New Testament by bringing one person at a time home to Him. In this book, the author invites the reader to see how praying for one person to share God's love with can align the Christian heart better to Jesus because we become participants in His mission. The book's message is profound in its simplicity, and the writing is engaging. All in all, it's an outstanding book with an important message for all Christians to hear.

Lost momentum!!

I loved the first book! Second book became a bit repetitive! The "bile rose in my throat" was said so many times that I would start skipping big chunks of the book itself.. The storyline became a little choppy at times and the flow of the book didn't make sense to me in some areas!

The BDSM & Slave/Master and psychopathic ex boyfriend/hacker genius/unable to have children/parents died in a car crash/dad returns from the dead and gay best friend partner gets murdered by the ex is just all a bit too much to absorb!! Then in the midst of all that sex, sex and more sex!!!

Too much is overwhelming!! Could have been spectacular if only a few of the dramatics were left of the paper!!

One of my all time favorite series!

OH MY LORD!!!! Could there be a better title for this book? I don't freaking think so!

This is absolutely by far the best work to date by J.M and that's saying an awful lot as I absolutely devour all of her books!

This book was SO insanely hot I wouldn't have been able to put it down if I wanted too! However it wasn't just a really good sexy story but so much more than that!

The plot line behind this story will leave you reeling! You will never in your wildest dreams be able to guess how it ends, and with the amount of good books out there now a days that's saying an awful lot!

Then we have the characters, oh the characters. Why oh why can't Parker Reed be real? By far one of my all time favorite book boyfriends EVER! If I could trade my husband in right now for him I can easily say I would in a heart beat! Then you have the female main character. Well lets just stay she may start off weak but the growth that goes into this character is amazing. I was absolutely blown away by the turn around she is able to make.

All in all I have nothing but good things to say about this book. The only bad thing I can say is that I may shed a few tears as I impatiently await the next book.

What an absolutely amazing conclusion to one of my all time favorite series!

From beginning to end, Edge will suck you into a roller coaster of a ride and leave you shaking your kindle and gasping!

I loved the way JM brought different aspects to the characters with this one. There were times where I actually felt like I was living this story and it would suck the air right out of me.

There may be times where you aren't a Parker Reed fan but keep pushing on as he redeems himself if the best ways possible.

Edge is not just a hot erotic read but it is a suspenseful thriller that will leave you reeling for days after!

I don't want to tell anybody else what they will like and not like but i don't really understand the 5 star ratings..I was disappointed in this book to be honest. What disappointed me was the fact that it could have been a great story. It had a great story line but it just went off track in places. For me if the story line had of been focused on more it would have been great but i felt it focused on bmsd in places when it shouldnt have and for me the story suffered for it. I felt there were things and instances in the book that should have been explained and explored into alittle more..some things just didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Anyway not a terrible read but for me a let down and could have been better. Sorry

This book also highlights the ideological clash between whole language and direct instruction, partly at the expense of linguist Noam Chomsky and behavioral psychologist B.F. Skinner, who figured prominently in earlier editions. No other text integrates such a wide range of topics relative to reading, and few other texts are as readable or as "user-friendly" for instructors, students, and practitioners.

The most significant book on reading of this century

Frank Smith wrote the first edition of this book in 1971. This is the 4th edition, and although he has done some updating, the basic theme is the same. The book covers two problems: How do we make sense of text (read), and how do we learn to read? If you are a fan of phonics either don't read this book or read with an open mind.

Well,I have just finished reading the book. It was a great experience to learn so many things about Big Bang Theory in terms of research, technological activities and revolution of Information Technology surrounding this cosmological model. There's No Book Like This One!

Excellent Book!

On page 44 of the book, the authors write, “The subjunctive is not just about casting doubt on things. It’s so much more than that!” I couldn’t agree more. By going through this book and the many exercises it contains, I’ve not only improved my knowledge and use of the subjunctive, but have refreshed my vocabulary and even learned some new words, expressions and sentence structures.

The subjunctive is broken down and dissected in this book. I don’t see a small 3 page section of the subjunctive in a grammar review book, but rather an entire book of almost 200 pages on the subject!

This book enables us to identify what they call the “subjunctive triggers”. “This trigger is ‘a very specific set of words that ‘fire off’ the subjunctive”. (page 21)

The book starts off with a very interesting introduction by the authors on “subjunctivitus” and Gordon’s “light bulb moment”.

It goes on to review the subjunctive structure – verb conjugation to form the subjunctive, then jumps right in.

A metaphor that is presented and utilized throughout the book is:

¡WOOPA!

…which stands for:

Wishes
Opinions
Obligations
Possibilities
Afterwards
I could explain it further, but that’s what the book is for. :)

Exercises. Lots and lots of good exercises on the different kinds of subjunctive triggers. Instead of fill-in-the blank, I like that the authors present the sentences in English, which we translate into Spanish and write them down. This is excellent for language learning. Translating and writing them down somehow tends to make them “stick” in our brains.

The final review towards the end of the book is about 10 pages long and covers all the different triggers that are mentioned in the text once again.

In case you need it, there is also an index of verb conjugations in the back of the book.

Conclusion

If I had three thumbs, I’d give this book three thumbs up. Have you ever wasted money on a book before? Not gonna happen if you purchase this one. You’ll love it. I highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about learning or reviewing Spanish. I will definitely check out Gordon and Cynthia’s other books!

A very good approach to the Spanish subjunctive

This is an excellent book. It's clear, well-written, and full of exercises. The author asks us to do the exercises three times -- which is a smart way of proceeding, because it really nails down the concepts as you go through the book. Focusing on the patterns that provoke the subjunctive, and narrowing the "motivations" to five, makes the subjunctive easier to understand and implement in writing and in speech. It is helpful to use the Lightspeed Spanish videos on YouTube to supplement and reinforce what the book is teaching you.

As I was awaiting for this book to arrive, I excitedly anticipated that it would live up to my expectations as another great resource from Gordon and Cynthia. I had been very familiar with their website LightSpeedSpanish.com (I highly recommend it, as well as their Help Sheets), and I consider this site one of the best for Spanish learners. All I can say is that Gordon and Cynthia have taken something (The Spanish Subjunctive) usually avoided, and feared by Spanish learners, and turned it into something easy, clear, and fun!! In a straightforward and practical manner, with great explanations, plenty of examples, and a TON of exercises, they explain the Spanish subjunctive better than any resource I have come across to date. As a matter of fact, I am going to give a copy to my son's high school Spanish teacher! For anyone who wants to tackle the Spanish Subjunctive, you will want this book!
