Good guide, but any and all confusion is really on the game itself.

When it comes to strategy guides there is generally a prevailed (and largely unquestioned) opinion that strategy guides produced by a game's creator (e.g. Nintendo) are generally great and maintain a pretty high level of quality. Well, this was true back when I ordered the strategy guide for Super Metroid back in 1996 via mail order and it held true when I picked up the guides for Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes at a second hand store a few years ago.
Of course, in saying the above I don't want to insinuate that blind faith in any particular line of products is a good thing, but I do have some things to say about Nintendo's work on this one. As other reviews have pointed out this guide does a good job of guiding one through the game and getting all the goodies. However, I do feel the layout of the guide is a little convoluted. Now that may sound like a criticism of the guide itself yet it is not. Anyone who has ever played Metroid Prime 2 knows that the game's structure (with the presence of a "light" and "dark" world and the constant need to switch between realms to accomplish things) makes the game much more complex than the original. When you (or the author) tries to express this in writing, well, things are going to get chaotic with the presentation of the walk-through regardless. Because of this the few moments where I was confused I really didn't feel were the fault of the author as much as the result of the game itself. I'm sure some people see that as avoiding the issue or flat out giving the author a pass but I think trying to make the few, slightly confusing spots clearer probably would have resulted in even more confusion. Personally, given the way the game is set up it couldn't have been easy to write about let alone create so I don't think this is a time where being critical is appropriate.
However, the Prime 2 Echoes Player's Guide does lead me to point out the omission of a Nintendo Player's Guide for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Prima's guide was decent enough (even though there were a few omissions within that aggravated me) but I just don't understand why Nintendo would not allow players to round out their collection of Nintendo strategy guides by not making their own guide for it. I know it seems rather trivial but as it collector it kind of bugs me. I know a Nintendo produced guide for Corruption was released in Japan but that's obviously not going to help anyone on this side of the pond. Despite my endless ramblings on the absence of a Corruption guide I think it's pretty obvious by this point that the Nintendo backed guides for the first two Prime games are definitely worth your time and money if you're stuck or just have a thing for collecting memorabilia. Additionally, I think they were pretty common as well so you probably won't have much trouble track one down or end up paying a lot for it.

Why This Guide Rocks

This is the ONLY true guide for Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. It gives you every logbook entry in the first room/opportunity you can scan it in in the walkthrough. By following the items guide in the appendix, you can get 100% of the items. Not to mention it's full of funny jokes and witty musings. For example, the introduction to the Torvus Bog section of the walkthrough says:
When you think of a bog, you might imagine friendly alligators cavorting in the sunshine, trading warm hellos with the locals. Well, that's not what bogs are like at all. Load up on that arm cannon and get ready to blast anything that moves.
The only hitch is that the Spider Guardian fight is not well detailed (although that really can't be helped; nothing can prepare you for the agony of fighting that bastard for the first time!) and his colors are red, BLUE and green, not red, orange and green. Other than that, it's perfect. Get going, Hunter.

"May the light of azarath be with you"

Samus the worlds deadliest bounty hunter does nothing but please in this one with amazing graphics for a game ahead of it's time a great story line with artistic characters and the new abilities with samus's arm cannon is just mind blowing. The concept art is beautifully and the game play is viciously addicting. This is something you must have in your game cube collection and is a great addition to an game cube collection. "May the light of azarath be with you"
