About the Author
Joy Hakim, a former teacher, editor, and writer won the prestigious James Michener Prize for her series, A History of US, which has sold over 4 million copies nationwide. A graduate of Smith College and Goucher College she spent years teaching students from elementary school up to the college level. She also served as an Associate Editor at Norfolk's Virginian-Pilot, and was an Assistant Editor at McGraw-Hill's World News.

Excellent accompanyment for the text and student guide.

I'm glad I purchased this to go with the textbook and student study guide for homeschooling. Although some of the activities suggested are for large groups and aren't pertinent to my needs, it has the answers to questions in the student guild, and it is a great tool for starting discussions. So much of the material parallels things I'm seeing in our country now, so this particular book is very good for teaching critical thinking skills. This series is also very good for secular homeschooling. It covers religion from the standpoint of how it has impacted the history of our country without teaching any particular doctrine. I am a big fan of Joy Hakin's books. This will be my 8th year to homeschool various grandchildren, and I've gone through a lot of curriculum. Her books are among the very best I've used.
